Radio Control System
The Orion Systems Radio Control System (RCS) is used to interconnect 4-Wire E&M radios with operational personnel. The basic building block of an RCS system is an Orion Systems RC4 device. Each RC4 device is equipped with four 4-Wire E&M interfaces and two headset interfaces. Multiple RC4 devices can be daisy chained to create a radio control network capable of communicating with up to 16 radios and 8 operators. The RCS system is a full duplex system capable of transmitting and receiving audio simultaneously on all radio nets.
Each radio interface consists of 600 Ω balanced analog transmit and receive audio pair, a solid state contact closure for radio keying is provided. The 4-Wire E & M interfaces provides compatibility with various radios including HF, UHF, and VHF types.
Each RC4 device has the capability to support 2 headsets/handsets. Headset /Handset jack boxes are available as an option. The RC4 device also has an integrated front panel loudspeaker and a rear panel audio output jack. The rear panel speaker jack contains the same audio information as the loudspeaker.
An operator controls the RCS system using a touch screen device. Each radio interface is displayed and has the following Talk/Listen options - Transceive, Monitor only, or Mute. Each radio interface includes per circuit volume, audio present, and circuit ID. The RCS system also supports interoperability by allowing the operator to patch radios together. When radio to radio patch is initiated VOX keying is automatically enabled on the radio circuits.
Wired and / or wireless headsets can be connected to the RCS system. Each headset includes an integrated Push-to-talk (PTT) for radio keying. The audio between the wireless headset and the headset base unit is secure and compliant with standard DECT 64 bit encryption. The wireless headset device uses lithium-ion batteries and can operate for up to 8 hours of talk time between charges.
The RCS system provides a secure full duplex communication between headsets.
Deployment configurations are flexible. The RCS system is scalable to accommodate multiple radios, operators and operator positions. Operator positions transmit circuit selection commands over Ethernet to each RC4 device.
